PITP is a National Charity focused on the veterinary health and welfare of companion animals and wellbeing of their owners together while experiencing homelessness.

It is not only people who are homeless and love does not pay a vet bill. There is a very real and valuable community need for a service dedicated to help care for the companion pets of people experiencing homelessness.

To address this, we are physically providing access to free preventative health care programs that help people experiencing homelessness care for their pets and supporting the wellbeing of homeless people in society living with animal companions.

Pets in the Park (PITP) would like to invite a select group of UQ veterinary students the opportunity to volunteer at our three preventative health clinics. Clinics details are below:

  1. Brisbane CBD - the first Sunday of each month at 11.30am - 1.30pm
  2. Caboolture - the first Saturday of each month at 2-4pm
  3. Ipswich - the second Saturday of each month at 12-2pm

At the clinic you will be assigned to a Veterinarian and/or a Veterinary nurse to participate in the consultation process with our clients. You will observe and contribute, where appropriate, in clinical examinations and health checks including vaccinations, worming, microchipping and heartworm testing. While we mainly focus on preventative health care, we also diagnose and prescribe pharmaceutical treatment regimens for various medical conditions.

There will be an application process and UQ and Pets in the Park will decide on the final cohort to participate in this opportunity. Our decisions will be final for this intake, there may be future opportunities available.

Please email your expression of interest with name, address, email, phone number, year of study and include a paragraph or two as to what interests you most about being involved with the PITP clinics and how it will benefit your studies and future career.
